Azimuth & elevation estimation using acoustic array
نویسنده
چکیده
Tracking of helicopters or any airborne targets requires estimation of both azimuth and elevation angles of the target. In this paper, an algorithm for estimation of azimuth and elevation using acoustic array (array of microphones) will be presented. There are several super resolution algorithms for estimation of direction of arrival (DoA) angles, such as minimum variance distortionless response (MVDR), multiple signal classification (MUSIC), ESPRIT, etc. While these algorithms are able to provide fairly good estimation of azimuth, they are unable to estimate the elevation angles with reasonable accuracy. In this paper, a new pardigm is developed to estimate the pointing vector (azimuth & elevation) to the target using the angle of arrivals (AoA) of a target’s signal at each pair of microphones in the array. Mathematical formulation of the problem is presented. The algorithm for estimation of azimuth and elevation is used on actual helicopter data, and the results are presented.

Effects of Sensor Placement on Acoustic Vector-Sensor Array Performance
We consider the role played by the sensor locations in the optimal performance of an array of acoustic vector sensors. First we derive an expression for the Cramér–Rao bound on the azimuth and elevation of a single far-field source for an arbitrary acoustic vector-sensor array in a homogeneous wholespace and show that it has a block diagonal structure, i.e., the source location parameters are u...

This paper presents a dual-band planar antenna array for ISM band applications (2.4 GHz and 2.45 GHz). This antenna is proposed for indoor applications and enables adaptive beamforming and angle of arrival (AOA) estimation. An adaptive beamforming algorithm is applied for a planar antenna array, which is able to steer its main beam and nulls in azimuth and elevation planes over a wide frequency...
متن کاملTwo-dimensional DOA estimation of coherent signals using acoustic vector sensor array
In this paper, we present two new methods for estimating two-dimensional (2-D) direction-of-arrival (DOA) of narrowband coherent (or highly correlated) signals using an L-shaped array of acoustic vector sensors. We decorrelate the coherency of the signals and reconstruct the signal subspace using cross-correlation matrix, and then the ESPRIT and propagator methods are applied to estimate the az...

The eeect from polarization of emitted wave fronts on the parameter estimation accuracy for an array composed only of sensors sensitive to just one polarization direction has not been addressed in the literature this far. Antennas with such characteristics are, e.g., dipole (or scalar) antennas. A vector sensor, on the other hand, is a sensor whose output data consists of, for the electromagnet...

This novel underwater acoustic azimuth-elevation source localization scheme realizes the eigenstructure-based polynomial rooting procedure for an L-shaped uniformly spaced array of diversely oriented and possibly spatially co-located velocity hydrophones and an optional pressure hydrophone. A velocity hydrophone measures a Cartesian component of the acoustic particle velocity vector of the inci...
